Which movie comes before Superman Returns and is it that animated one? I'd like to watch it but there are so many movies for Superman and I'm not sure which one it is. It's not a sequel, prequel, or spinoff. Rather, it's a retooling of the story. Some will argue that Superman Returns wasn't very good. I won't get into that argument other than to say I enjoyed it.
The notable Superman projects prior to Superman Returns would include the TV series Smallville, the 4 movies with Christopher Reeve - ending with Superman IV: The Quest for Peace in 1987, and a number of other movies and TV shows dating back to at least 1941.
I would also recommend checking out the Richard Donner cut of Superman II which was released on DVD just a couple year's ago. Donner used old footage to basically restore the film he was trying to make before he was fired and replaced.What is the movie before Superman Returns.?Superman Leaves?
